Wildman & His Funny Friends

Saturday I went over to Robin's - to hang out with some of my favorite girls (Robin, Julie, Joan, and Kate) and work dogs and EAT.  Man did we eat - Kate made some homemade Gingerbread that I think I single-handedly probably wiped out at least half of.  We worked dogs some, but mostly socialized and ate, and it was just nice to hang out and spend time with some wonderful ladies.

While at Robin's I gave Linc a whirl.  I took him in the roundpen loose, thinking it might take a few minutes to get him good and turned on (like it did the last two times).  Hah - silly me.  He's almost six months old now.  Duh.  By the time I turned around from closing the gate he was long gone - and already having himself a big old time without me.  I ran on into the fracas  - and after a moment I thought to myself, "I'm going to need a stick, or something, but I don't know how I'm going to get one".  At that point I got him going around, but thankfully about that time Robin also yelled, "You need a stick!" and tossed me one!

He was like a little black wildman - going 90 MPH, but he was going.  Getting him to change directions was a challenge - he liked his come bye side... a lot.  I did manage to get him to change a few times, and I had an absolute ball.  I was panting like a dog myself after a very short time - it was hot, and I was practically running backwards.  Fortunately I somehow managed to snag him up on his way by once, otherwise it might would have taken a while to catch him!  Little beastie boy.  I think I'm going to really enjoy him.  He's not quite as serious and sensible as his brother Bart is at this point (I love me some Bart), and it's interesting to me how different siblings can be.  But he's getting quite keen, and that makes me very happy.

While there Julie worked Raven - one of Nick, Pip, and Phoebe's littermates that's there for training.  She was looking really, really good - and it's a testament to how much of a difference appropriate stock makes.  I think she's going to come along nicely!

Anyway, as for Linc... I think it's time for a long line now!  I really enjoyed him Saturday - and I was reminded of one of the MANY reasons why I decided to take off my weight.  Puppy workin' is hard sweaty  work.  Poor Linc, though, scuffed a pad (or three) and he's spent the last two days trying to convince me of his pitiful plight.  This morning he's mostly over it and running around like a lunatic again.  He and Nick are getting their first day out in the kennels today, too.

I worked Nick a good bit this weekend - both at Robin's, and then twice yesterday while farm-sitting.  Cleaning up his inside flanks has done wonders for his general attitude, but it has also done wonders for MY general attitude.  I'm really enjoying working him, and he's really enjoying working.  He's not making his sheep all mad by slicing around and causing problems, and he's taking his flank commands pretty reliably now (squaring off nicely).  One of my plans is to start getting serious about putting his flank whistles on him.

I ran into the getting wider problem on the Tunises yesterday evening - and when it popped up I asked for a stop and then walked him in really fast.  Seemed to fix things.  I think Nick is thinking he'll stop the running by getting wider, which he does to a degree, but then he puts himself WAY off contact and winds up really having to do a lot of extra work to cover.

So we (and by we I mean me and all five Crazies) are farm-sitting this week, and having a ball.  I had big plans to work Nick before work this morning, but even with getting up at 5:30 am by the time I finished everything I had to do and got ready to leave for work there's just NO way.  I'll have to aim for just before dark instead.

Ginger and Zippy are having a ball farm-sitting, and June is convinced that a major storm is coming.  She keeps cramming herself in every available crate - which means I'm having to drag her out of a lot of crates.  I hope she's right - we need the rain BAD.

Lastly, I took the CrazyMobile over to my stepdad's last night so he can change out the rotors and brake pads.  Dummy me left my shoes in the back of the van.  So here I am at work today in flip flops.  My toes and fingers are freezing!  I'm going to *try* to get some pics while farm-sitting this week.  I can't make any guarantees though - first I have to go rescue the camera from the house!

That sounds like fun, I would love to see a video of Linc working.

Next time I work him I'll see if I can get some (but I may not take him back out for another 2-4 weeks though). He was really a lot different from the earlier video I posted. I love this early on stuff - it's fun!
